On the lower McCloud River, near where it's waters run into Shasta Lake is a secret place of mystery.
Seven miles of river and 3,000 acres of land make up what is known as Bollibokka. The word means
"black manzanita" in native Winnemen Wintu language. Austin and Rueben Hills bought what became
Bollibokka for $5.00 an acre in 1904. A member of the Bollibokka Fishing Club could stay at one of the
cabins biult on the property by the native Wintu, eat in the dinning hall and enjoy the finest trout fishing in
the world. These waters have remained private ever since. The wild rainbow trout found in these waters
are the same rainbows found in New Zealand and S. America. Yes, they came from the McCloud. Today,
the fishing is still beyond par. Anglers will find beatuful rainbow trout in almost every run eating flies off the
surface or chasing sculpin's and smaller fish down deep. Even flies suspended in the midde of the current
will tease more than a few fish. Bollibokka is a speacial place located on a speacial river.
Recently, I have been granted access to this sacred section of the McCloud. I am very fortunate. In the
days, weeks, months to come I will be invloved in getting to know Bollibokka. I think this is the start of a
beautiful relationship.
You are welcome to come visit this exclusive section of the McCloud with me. To find out how, call The Fly
Shop to check on avaiability. I must advise you to plan well in advance if you want a chance to cast a fly at
Bollibokka. Not too many anglers are allowed to fish here. In order to maintain the Bolliboka experience,
access is restricted.
